Sometimes, the wonderful moments of our lives are too precious to dilute with description. The horrible ones – too painful. And so, I have mostly fed on the in-between – It’s a Leitrim thing. Don’t go too far North or South.
Or to put it another way – when my mother was in the kitchen, the less ingredients she had, the more adventurous she became. We were always delighted to hear her say, ‘There’s not a thing in the house for this evening’s tea’. That’s when the banquet would begin.
So, without a Nobel Prize or term in jail to my name – I too, have to explore the cracks and crevices of my uneventful world in order to provide spark. ‘MY TIME’ could be anyone’s, but it’s not. It’s mine – no head nor tail to it. A world that probably only exists in the longing for something else or a reason to step out from the drip. And yes, there is pain and great joy in here. But I’ve disguised them both, to save our blushes.
Seamus O’Rourke
Seamus O’Rourke is an actor, a poet, a playwright and a proud Leitrim man. He has written fifteen stage plays and one whole book of poems, recitations and good ones. He’s always on the radio. Based in rural Ireland, he has become widely known for his simple storytelling – capturing rural Irish life in a way that both amuses and affects. His writing takes a rare approach – he watches from a different hill – it oozes with an energy and passion that comes from being in the wrong place at the right time. The only time you can get all the details is when there’s nothing happening. That’s when you find out everything.
